Is Kangen Water Approved by the FDA?

Health conscious folks are often curious about what they put into their bodies, which is why so many have questions about Kangen Water.

While you may have heard of the benefits of drinking this alkaline water, you may be wondering if it has been FDA approved.

In this post, we will discuss the facts about Kangen Water and the FDA’s stance on it.

What is Kangen Water?

Kangen Water is a brand of alkaline water machines that has been produced and loved in Japan since 1974 and it has recently become more popular in other countries all over the world.

It is produced by a device called a water ionizer that uses electrolysis to break down regular tap water into two parts (streams): acidic (which can be used for cleaning) and alkaline (or “Kangen”) drinking water.

The process by itself does not remove chlorine, pesticides, and other harmful chemicals from the water, but the internal filter sure does. Some also recommend to have a pre-filter system in order to keep your water ionizer clean and effective. Be sure to learn more about what kangen water really is and see if it’s a good fit for you.

Is Kangen Water FDA Approved?

The answer to this question is no, since The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not approve or certify any specific type of drinking water product or treatment system. In terms of water, think of the FDA as an agency that regulates products you can consume right away, like things you purchase at the store.

The FDA isn’t going to approve or disapprove of an appliance, such as a refrigerator, simply because it has a water filter and a dispenser. They do however, regulate bottled water products under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA). This means that any product labeled as “bottled water” must meet certain standards set by the FDA regarding safety and labeling requirements.

What You Need to Know About Kangen Water

Kangen Water is not specifically approved or certified by the FDA but it does meet all of their safety regulations for bottled water products.

The main benefits of drinking Kangen Water over regular tap water are its alkalinity and antioxidant properties, both of which can help you neutralize toxins in your body and provide numerous health benefits including improved digestion, increased energy levels, better skin health, longevity, and more balanced pH levels.

Additionally, because it does not contain much chlorine or other harmful chemicals found in most tap waters it can be safer for drinking than regular tap water as well.

What Does the FDA Say About Alkaline Water?

There isn’t much available information about the FDA and how they feel about alkaline water. They don’t write opinion pieces targeting types of water, they have bigger fish to fry.

For example, when there was a cause for concern during the 2021 Real Water Hepatitis outbreak, they responded with an immediate investigation. If the FDA had a problem with Kangen water and alkaline water in general, there would have been an investigation and plenty of media coverage. Enagic has been making machines since 1974, so the FDA had plenty of time.

What Does This All Mean?

Hopefully, this post has answered your questions regarding the FDA and whether or not they approve of Kangen Water. The way I see it, they don’t care, unless there are serious problems with the product.

There are lots of articles written by Enagic’s competitors, who simply want to bash Kangen water and sell you their product instead. I would highly recommend giving Kangen water a try and see how it makes you feel, but then again, I may be biased since I own an SD501 myself and absolutely love it. If I were to purchase a machine today, I would probably go for the K8. Feel free to check out this review of both of those machines.

All in all, if you’re looking for a healthier option when it comes to hydration then give Kangen Water a try today!
